Let’s just say that our first day was… quite an adventure! We spent our first hour off the plane in awe of a very busy Katmandu, passing through the tourist district of Thamel in heavy traffic, experienced some confusion with our hotel booking, and ended up a day early at the Mountain Fund volunteer hostel. Even so, they took us with open arms and gave us rooms once the 32 Canadian high school students left for home.
Yesterday was our first full day in Katmandu. We woke up to sunny skies, Nescafé instant coffee, and French toast prepared by our gracious hosts. With bellies filled, we met up with our amazing guide Sarun, who took us sightseeing in Katmandu. We also visited The Monkey Temple seen in this picture. It was great to go explore the city and continue our cultural acclimation.
We also visited the Khagendra Newlife Center, and the Disabled Newlife Center (DNC). Both support people with disabilities in a school/life center environment. We met some amazing people, played, and practiced our Nepali.

Today we head to The Self Help Group for Cerebral Palsy (SGCP) in Lalitpur where we will volunteering the next 3 days! More pictures and updates to come!
