Historically, the Washington legislature has supported students with developmental disabilities transitioning to work/secondary education by funding waiver slots for them every biennium. It has been a bipartisan effort to fund Transition Services. Unfortunately, the current house budget only funds 10% of the 2019-2020 grads to get these services. Please match the Governor’s proposal to cover 51% of the students in both House/Senate budgets as suggested by Developmental Disability Administration.
The Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) requests $10,603,000 ($5,874,000 GF-State) in anticipation that 51 percent of the 1,793 eligible high school graduates will seek DDA services in the 2019-21 Biennium. These state funds will be matched by federal Medicaid funds.
Please help us ensure that Washington’s investment in special education, these highly capable students- graduate to the workforce and not to the couch.
(If you/your family member benefited from employment services right after school, please let them know how important it was to you).
